A new six-storey addiction Treatment and Recovery Facility for adults experiencing homelessness has been opened in the capital by Dublin Simon Community, a charity that works to prevent and address homelessness.
Described as a ‘game-changer” for both the health sector and the homeless community the new Usher’s Island facility has been equipped with specialist furniture supplied by Teal, helping to create an environment that supports the recovery of homeless adults living with addiction and health problems.
The new 100-bed facility which aims to provide adults with a clear pathway out of homelessness benefits from Teal’s contemporary styled furniture, selected in the communal group therapy room, one-to-one therapy room, dining room, reception, breakout spaces, bedrooms, offices and meeting rooms. Anti-ligature features help to prevent self-harm while upholstery in a selection of co-ordinating fabric effect vinyl’s helps to create an uplifting and non-clinical aesthetic.
Communal therapy spaces benefit from colourful Roku® moulded furniture with additional weighting to maximise safety and limit misuse, helping to create uplifting interiors with natural light and space, providing an aid to health and wellbeing.
The furniture is not only appropriate for the environment but is also highly durable – an important factor with more than 800 clients estimated to go through the new facility annually.
Usher’s Island has enabled Dublin Simon Community to add an additional 50 short-stay beds to those available in the greater Dublin area. This is an important facility that will help save millions, reducing the burden on public hospitals while helping to deliver on national policy in relation to homelessness, drugs and health.
